  • 6 slices slices of bread (such as challah or brioche) Use day-old bread for better texture.
  • 2 cups fresh blueberries You can use frozen blueberries if fresh ones are not available, just thaw and drain them.
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup sugar Taste the egg mix before pouring to adjust sweetness.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Add more if you prefer a stronger flavor.
  • 1 pinch salt
  • For greasing Butter

Preparation and Assembly

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish with butter.
  • Cut the bread into cubes and place half of the cubes in the greased baking dish.
  • Sprinkle half of the blueberries over the bread cubes.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt.
  • Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread and blueberries in the baking dish.
  • Top with the remaining bread cubes and blueberries.

Baking

  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is golden brown.
  • Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm!

Notes

For a make-ahead option, cover and refrigerate overnight to let it soak, then bake in the morning for a custardy texture. Serve warm with powdered sugar, maple syrup, yogurt, or whipped cream.
