  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed Ensure it's well-thawed for easy rolling.
Filling
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small yellow onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 10 oz cremini mushrooms, sliced You can also use shiitake or portobello for varied flavors.
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (or 1/2 tsp dried)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup Gruyère cheese, shredded (optional) Feel free to use other types of cheese like feta or mozzarella.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven as per the puff pastry instructions.
  2. In a skillet, melt the butter and olive oil over medium heat.
  3. Add the diced onion and sauté until translucent.
  4. Stir in the minced garlic and sliced mushrooms. Cook until the mushrooms are soft.
  5. Add thyme, salt, and pepper. Mix well and remove from heat.
  6. Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface.
  7. Place the mushroom mixture in the center, and fold the pastry over the filling to create a braid.
  8. Bake according to the puff pastry instructions until golden brown.
  9. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes
