  • ¾ cup powdered sugar
  • cup whole milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 oz whipped topping, thawed Like Cool Whip.
  • 1 20 oz can maraschino cherries, drained Or 2 cups fresh pitted cherries.
  • 1 cup shredded sweetened coconut For 'snow'.
  • Optional: ¼ cup chopped pecans or graham cracker crumbs For serving.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Drain cherries well and set them in a single layer in a shallow serving dish.
  • In a bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth.
  • Add powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla. Beat until smooth and thin.
  • Fold in the thawed whipped topping gently until mixed and light.
  • Spoon the cream mixture over the cherries. Spread it to cover the cherries evenly.
  • Sprinkle shredded coconut over the top to look like snow.
  • Cover and chill for at least 2 hours so the flavors blend and the topping firms.

Serving

  • Serve cold with small dessert spoons.
  • Offer crackers, graham crackers, or vanilla wafers on the side for guests to scoop the mix onto a cracker.
  • Sprinkle extra coconut or a few whole cherries for a pretty plate.

Notes

Keep covered in the fridge; lasts 2 to 3 days. Avoid leaving at room temperature for more than two hours. For a nutty aroma, add a small amount of almond extract. Consider using fresh cherries for better flavor.
