  • 1 lb ground beef or chicken Use preferred protein.
  • 1 tbsp olive oil For sautéing.

  • ½ tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp cumin

Preparation

  • In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until translucent.
  • Stir in the minced garlic, followed by the ground meat. Cook until browned and crumbly.
  • Add your spices — chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper — and mix thoroughly. Pour in salsa and simmer for 3–4 minutes until thickened.

Assembling

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). On a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, place small mounds (about ¼ cup each) of shredded cheese.
  • Flatten them into circles about 5 inches wide. Bake for 6–8 minutes until golden and bubbling.

Baking

  • Let the cheese rounds cool for about a minute, then quickly drape each one over a wooden spoon handle (or similar object) to shape them into taco shells.
  • Allow them to set as they cool, they’ll become beautifully crispy!

Finishing Touches

  • Once your taco shells are ready, fill them with the savory meat mixture and top with your favorite garnishes: diced tomatoes, lettuce, sour cream, and guacamole.

Notes

Make sure fillings aren't too watery to prevent soggy shells.
