Preparation
- Season the New York Strip steak with salt and black pepper and allow it to sit.
- Slice the onions thinly.
Cooking
- In a hot skillet with a little oil, sear the steak on high heat for about 3-4 minutes on each side until desired doneness is achieved. Remove the steak and let it rest.
- In the same skillet, add the sliced onions with a pinch of salt, and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, for 10-15 minutes until golden brown. Drizzle 1 tsp of balsamic glaze and mix.
- While the onions are caramelizing, toast the ciabatta loaf in a toaster or on a skillet until warm and slightly crispy.
Assembly
- Spread lemon herb aioli on both sides of the toasted ciabatta.
- Slice the rested steak, layer it on the bottom half, and add the caramelized onions and arugula. Drizzle remaining balsamic glaze on top.
- Top with the other half of the ciabatta to complete the sandwich.
Serving
- Cut the sandwich in half and serve warm, optionally with sides like fries or a salad.
Notes
For best results, let the steak rest after cooking. Consider adding garlic or herbs for extra flavor. Don't skip caramelizing the onions as it enhances the sandwich's sweetness.
