Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef You can swap for turkey or chicken if preferred.
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar Can substitute with honey or maple syrup.
  • ¼ cup soy sauce Use low sodium if preferred.
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes Optional for spice.
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger Or 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger.
  • 2 cups cooked rice Can use white, brown, or cauliflower rice.

Cooking

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until it is browned. Drain any excess fat.
  • Add the minced garlic and fresh ginger to the pan and sauté for about a minute until fragrant.
  • Stir in the brown sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using). Let simmer for about 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Serve the hot beef mixture over the cooked rice and top with your favorite veggies, sesame seeds, or green onions.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave or a skillet, adding a splash of water or broth as needed to keep it moist.
