Optional Toppings

  • sesame seeds For garnish.
  • sliced cucumber For garnish.
  • kimchi For garnish.
  • pickled vegetables For garnish.
  • bell peppers, carrots, broccoli, or spinach Fresh vegetables to add.

Instructions

Cooking Rice

  • Rinse 1 cup of rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Combine it with 2 cups of water in a pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for about 15 minutes until the water is absorbed. Remove from heat and let it sit for another 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork.

Cooking Beef

  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef. Use a spatula to break it apart as it cooks. Brown the beef for about 5-7 minutes until it is no longer pink.

Adding Aromatics

  • If there's excess fat in the skillet, drain it. Then, add the minced garlic and ginger. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

Seasoning

  • Stir in the soy sauce, sesame oil, and chopped green onions. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Allow the mixture to simmer for a few minutes so the flavors meld together.

Assembling the Bowl

  • Spoon a generous amount of cooked rice into the bottom of your bowl. Top the rice with the seasoned ground beef mixture.

Adding Vegetables

  • If you're using any additional vegetables, like steamed broccoli or sliced bell peppers, add them on top or around the beef.

Garnishing and Serving

  • Finish with a sprinkle of sesame seeds, extra chopped green onions, and any other toppings you prefer, like kimchi or a fried egg.

Notes

For the best texture, make sure not to overcook the ground beef; aim for a nice brown color and no pink remaining. Use fresh vegetables for added crunch and flavor. Avoid overcooking the rice; it should be fluffy and not sticky. Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
