Ingredients

Sauce

  • ¼ cup brown sugar (packed)
  • ¼ cup reduced sodium soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red-pepper flakes (or more to taste)
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger

Main Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 pieces green onions (thinly sliced)
  • ¼ teaspoon sesame seeds

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a small bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, red pepper flakes, and ginger.

Cooking

  • Heat the vegetable oil in a large cast iron skillet over medium-high heat. Add the garlic and cook, stirring constantly, until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  • Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, about 3-5 minutes, crumbling the beef as it cooks and draining any excess fat.
  • Stir in the soy sauce mixture and green onions, mixing until well combined. Allow to simmer until heated through, about 2 minutes.

Serving

  • Serve immediately, garnished with additional green onions and sesame seeds if desired.

Notes

Korean Beef Bowl is best served warm over rice or noodles. You can also add some steamed vegetables or a side of kimchi for extra flavor and nutrition. Adjust the spice level to your taste, and consider garnishing for presentation.
