Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened Ensure butter is softened, not melted.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Mix-ins

  • 1 cup chocolate chips Can substitute with white chocolate, raisins, or dried cranberries.
  • ½ cup chopped nuts (optional) Walnuts or pecans work well.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) for even baking.
  • In a bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk until blended.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract until combined.
  • Gradually blend in the dry ingredients until well mixed; the dough should be thick.
  • Gently stir in the chocolate chips and optional nuts until evenly distributed.

Baking

  • Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased cookie sheets, leaving space between each cookie.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until edges are lightly browned.
  • Let cookies cool on the sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

For chewier cookies, add more brown sugar or reduce flour slightly. Avoid overmixing the dough to prevent tough cookies.
