Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup (10.5 ounces)
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ teaspoon paprika (optional, for garnish)
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Prepare your potatoes by slicing them thinly.

Cooking

  • In a skillet, brown the ground beef with the chopped onion over medium heat for about 5-7 minutes. As it cooks, add garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
  • Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of the greased baking dish. Then, add half of the cooked beef mixture on top. Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the cream of mushroom soup with the milk. Pour this mixture evenly over the casserole.
  • Sprinkle the top with shredded cheese and drizzle the melted butter over everything. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  • After 45 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  • Let it rest for 5-10 minutes. If you’d like, sprinkle some paprika on top before serving.

Notes

For best results, ensure your oven is fully preheated and your potatoes are thinly sliced. Letting the casserole sit after baking helps it firm up for easier serving.
