Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef Use a good quality ground beef for the best flavor.
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced Don’t overcook the vegetables; they should be tender but still have some crunch.
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 4 slices provolone cheese (or any cheese of your preference) Feel free to use different types of cheese like mozzarella or cheddar.
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil, for cooking

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large skillet, add a drizzle of olive oil and heat over medium-high.
  • Add the sliced onions and bell peppers. Sauté for about 3-5 minutes until they are tender.
  • If using mushrooms, add them now and cook for an additional 3 minutes.

Cooking

  • Push the cooked vegetables to the side of the skillet and add the ground beef to the pan.
  • Break apart the beef with a spatula and cook until it is no longer pink, which should take about 5-7 minutes.
  • Stir in garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix everything together properly for about 2 minutes.
  • Reduce the heat to low. Place a slice of cheese over the beef mixture and cover the skillet with a lid. Allow the cheese to melt for about 2-3 minutes.
  • While the cheese is melting, slice the hoagie rolls lengthwise without cutting all the way through, creating a pocket for the filling.
  • Once the cheese has melted, spoon the beef and vegetable mixture into each roll.
  • For added texture, you can toast the rolls briefly in the oven before serving.

Serving

  • Ground Beef Philly Cheesesteaks are best served hot and fresh. Pair them with crispy fries, potato chips, or a refreshing salad.

Notes

To ensure your Ground Beef Philly Cheesesteaks turn out perfectly, use good quality ground beef and stir the mixture well to incorporate all flavors evenly. For gooey cheese, cover the pan while it melts.
