- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and gather all your ingredients and measuring tools.
- In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes with a mixer.
- Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and baking powder until evenly distributed.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
- Fold in chocolate chips or nuts into the dough.
- Drop spoonfuls of dough onto a lined baking sheet, spacing them about two inches apart.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown around the edges.
- Allow treats to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
