Ingredients

  • 8 fl oz water room temperature or lukewarm (1 cup / 240 ml)
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda level, sodium bicarbonate (not baking powder)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice or apple cider vinegar optional

Instructions

  • Pour the water into a glass. Lukewarm water dissolves the powder faster than cold.
  • Add the baking soda and stir for 30 to 60 seconds until the liquid is completely clear with no grit at the bottom.
  • If using lemon juice or apple cider vinegar, add it now and let the fizz settle for a few seconds.
  • Drink slowly on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before food, then follow with a full glass of plain water.

Notes

Safety: never exceed ½ teaspoon per dose, never drink it on a very full stomach or with alcohol, and do not use it for more than 2 weeks in a row (MedlinePlus antacid limits). Each ½ teaspoon contains about 600 mg sodium. Not for pregnant women, children, or anyone with high blood pressure, heart or kidney disease. Baking soda has not been shown to cause fat loss.
